The RCMP is still searching for two other people accused of the shooting.

Police warn the public that they should not approach any of the suspects if they are spotted, but instead contact the police.

“The Saskatchewan RCMP is working tirelessly to find and arrest those responsible,” Supt said. Ted Munro, commander of the North Saskatchewan RCMP, said in a press release.

“The community and management must work in partnership with us to discourage and prevent criminal activity at all levels – this includes providing advice and information on the whereabouts of these wanted persons.”

The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations also intervened, demanding that the three suspects surrender.

“We do not want to see continuing violence and we do not want anyone to be hurt or worse,” said Dutch Deputy Chief Lerat. “We call on these young men to surrender peacefully and seek our spirituality for traditional healing.

The RCMP said the incident began Sunday morning after police saw a car speeding on Far Reserve Road of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

The patrol car chased him and followed her down the alley of a nearby home.

After the car stopped, police said, the driver got out of the car and fled. The RCMP said a second man got out of the car and started firing at the patrol car, with Mountis returning fire.

The RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team was called in and a total of 17 people were eventually arrested at the home, most of whom were eventually released without charge.

An emergency signal was issued and people in the La Ronge area were told to stay in their homes and lock their doors. The signal was eventually canceled by police.

Police said Deino may have been injured at the time of the incident. The officers were not injured.
