Macadam: In the age of disinformation, local news is more important than ever
The COVID-19 pandemic has left its mark on both the Ottawa Citizen and the news industry as a whole. It is no exaggeration to say that local news in Canada is in crisis, hit by the dual forces of struggling business models and reduced trust in public institutions, including the media. Both COVID showed how important accurate and timely information is, while robbing local news organizations of the revenue we need to survive.
