January 6 Live Hearing: Watch with analysis

“I swear allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic I stand for, a nation, under God, indivisible, with freedom and justice for all. [cheering] They came from all 50 states out of a sense of patriotic duty. ”“ This is much more than just a rally for President Trump. It is truly a cohesion for our way of life. The American dream against fake news. … to protest elections they consider stolen. “Stop the theft! Stop the theft! “” Here we are, patriots. We are in the Capitol building in Washington, DC, dead in front of us. Their day of action will be January 6 … “The house is in order.” ratified the results of the 2020 elections. For some, it was just a rally for their president. For others, it was a call for arms. “We have the power in numbers. social media to storm the Capitol. Maps of the building’s layout were shared. There was talk of carrying weapons and ammunition and a discussion of which lawmakers should be targeted first. This anger was based on a lie. “This election was a hoax. which became more furious after the election. “President Trump won this election.” “They counted votes.” “Steal the Philadelphia election.” “When you win with a clear result, they too… … “ “The Milwaukee election was stolen.” “It’s not acceptable.” “It’s outrageous.” A lie spread by the president and his closest allies. “Let’s call for fraud when we find it.” Some of them were calling for violence. “All hell will break out tomorrow.” “Everyone will remember who is actually in the breakthrough and fighting tomorrow. And who runs like a chicken. ” “We bleed freedom.” “This will be their Waterloo.” “And we will sacrifice for freedom.” “This will be their destruction.” “USA! USA!” What happened next was chaos. “Did they break the glass?” uprising. “Get it now!” “Treason! Betrayal! “Death. Then a history whitening campaign began, starting at the top.” It was a zero threat. It was a zero threat from the beginning. ” And it spreads in the Republican Party. “Even if we call it an uprising, it wasn’t. In general, it was a peaceful protest. “An MP who helped barricade the doors of the house now suggests that there was almost no threat.” If you didn’t know that the TV footage was a January 6 video, you would actually think that This is a normal tourist visit. It was not a tourist visit. And the evidence is in the footage. As part of a six-month investigation, The New York Times collected and forensicized thousands of videos, most of them shot by the rebels themselves. We received internal police radio traffic Our reconstruction shows the Capitol uprising as it was, a violent attack encouraged by the president against a democratic seat he promised to defend. We will track key instigators in the crowd who take advantage of weaknesses. they in defense of the Capitol to ignite a wave of violence that engulfed the building. We will show for the first time the many simultaneous points of attack and the eight violations of what seemed like an impenetrable government institution. We will show how the delay in securing Congress is likely to cost the life of a rebel. And how, for some, the storming of the Capitol was part of the plan all along. “Actually, I don’t even like to say it tomorrow because I’m going to be arrested.” “Well, let’s not say that. We have to go – I’ll say it. “” Okay. “- We have to go to the Capitol.” Let’s go! “It’s the morning of January 6 and thousands fill the National Mall in Washington. home and a half-hour walk to the US Capitol, where the election will be certified. Who is actually in this crowd? Most are ordinary citizens who believe Trump’s lie that the election was stolen. “It will be a great day. It will be wild as Trump says. ” But we also see more extreme groups gaining followers during Trump’s presidency. There are followers of the QAnon conspiracy – “Drinking their blood, eating our babies.” … who believe that Trump is facing a conspiracy by pedophiles who worship Satan. Q publications often refer to notions of patriotism and predict an impending storm. Even before January 6, some supporters called for violence. The Oath Keepers, a far-right paramilitary group, are also here. “We have men who are already stationed outside the District of Columbia.” Their leader said the group was ready to carry out Trump’s orders and arrest members of what they called the “Deep State.” They are organized, neatly arrange their equipment in a military style on the ground. And later, they put on bulletproof vests, talk on radio stations, and chat with their supporters in a walkie-talkie app called Zello. “We have a good group. We have about 30, 40 of us who stick together and stick to the plan. Everyone, we’re one block from the Capitol now. I’ll probably shut up when I get there, because I’ll be a little busy. ” Another group are the Proud Boys. They are far-right nationalists who shine white signs of power all day long. “Check all that testosterone.” They became a byword when Trump called them during a presidential debate. “Proud boys, step back and stay away.” And they did. They have a history of street violence and will be key instigators of the riots. We will return to them soon. Although the rally was declared a political protest, some called for a storming of the Capitol even before Trump spoke. And later, when Trump took the stage … “We’re going down to the Capitol. … some hear his words as a call to action. “I know that everyone here will soon be marching to the Capitol building. Two hours earlier, the Proud Boys were on their way to the Capitol. They are apparently spoiling for battle with far-left agitators such as antifa, who they believe are in DC. But there are moments that suggest another motive. “Come on, tighten up.” “Come on boys. They are also organized. Many are marked with an orange ribbon or hats. They wear bulletproof vests, wear baseball bats and use radios. “It simply came to our notice then. Jesse, this is Tucker. ” They are led by Ethan Nordin, who is entrusted with the so-called military powers. He is joined by other well-known Proud Boys such as Joe Biggs, a Florida organizer, Dominic Petzola, a former Marine, and Billy Crestman. They will be among the first rebels in the Capitol building. “Proud boys.” As Trump speaks, some of his other supporters are also heading to the Capitol. Chanting: “Whose streets? Our streets! Whose streets? Our streets! ” And the tone becomes threatening. “And we will storm [expletive] Capitol. [expletive] you, [expletive]”” USA! USA! ” Going forward, the guards at the building do not have enough staff and are ill-equipped for what lies ahead. “Will you stop us?” The building is more than two football fields long. And the barricades erected on the east side are defended by only a few dozen officers. The West, facing the Trump rally, is even lighter. The fence has been widened and only five officers guard the northwest approach. About five are also defending the southwest approach, a few more points on the lawn and about a dozen officers behind them. Plans to storm the Capitol were made before the eyes, but the FBI and Homeland Security did not consider these threats credible. “We’ll take this building!” “USA! USA!” Capitol police chiefs and the mayor of Washington have been warned at least three times for threats of violence, but have also not taken them seriously or disseminated the information. And they turned down offers for security officers from federal and other agencies. They could have recruited several hundred more Capitol police on January 6, but they didn’t. And none of the barricade officers have protective equipment or crowd control equipment. As a result, the Capitol is poorly protected. Whose House? Our house! Whose house? Our house! “It’s 12:50 and a large group of Proud Boys are with other protesters right next to the Capitol police line. Joe Biggs unites them. When he is approached by Ryan Samsel, a Trump supporter from Pennsylvania. But a minute later, Samsel was the first to approach the police line, and now the protest turned violent. “USA!” Without hesitation, the crowd prevailed over the police. they rush forward on several fronts. ”DC is a [expletive] military zone. “Police retreated to the Capitol building, where it became increasingly threatening.” That’s why we came! Yes! ” Crowd mentality is beginning to take hold, and the police are so superior that they have been forced to step down again to defend Capitol access points more strictly, five minutes after the siege, when the Capitol police chief calls for support from local law enforcement agencies, known as the Metropolitan Police, are asking other Capitol leaders to mobilize the National Guard. “You’ve been sworn in! we will explain later, the National Guard will not arrive for more than four hours …
