Martin Lewis was rejected for the title for the second time, but the consumer defender promised to run again.
It is reported that the founder and chairman of the website MoneySavingExpert.com in 2018 was overtaken by the Nomination Committee of the House of Lords (Holac).
Mr Lewis revealed that a recent request had also been rejected, arguing that the limited hours he could sit acted as a “stumbling block”.
“I’m very busy with my work, but the most important thing is that I have a nine-year-old daughter and until she turns 13, my most important job from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm is to be with her and put her to bed.” said Mr Lewis.
“I would see my role as studying for three to five years, with limited contributions and then gradually over the next five to 10 years, devoting more time to the House of Lords.
Anyone who wants to become a partner can nominate himself or herself or be nominated by another person or organization. They must meet criteria, including a record of “significant achievement” and a willingness to “take the time”.
I sighed with relief
Speaking to the BBC’s Political Thinking podcast, Mr Lewis acknowledged that he “sighed with relief because there is a lot of pressure at the moment and I thought maybe a few years would probably be more sensible”.
Mr Lewis, who was highly critical of the government during the cost of living crisis but praised Rishi Sunak’s recent support package, added that he would sit as a rival and swear in a “paradox of neutrality”.
