TL; DR
- Nothing Phone 1 will initially be sold through an invitation system.
- This will be similar to the way the first OnePlus phones were sold.
- Invitation codes may be available first to the Nothing community and early supporters.
Anyone who has followed OnePlus from the beginning knows that the company has changed a lot over the years. He sold his early phones exclusively through an invitation system. Although this made it difficult to obtain the phone, it allowed OnePlus to slowly increase inventory and artificially keep OnePlus in the news even longer. Nothing seems to take a page from the early OnePlus. Nothing, founded by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pay, will also have its own Invitation system to sell Nothing Phone 1.

In a video released by the company, Pei says: “When you make a very complex product like a smartphone, it takes some time to grow. We can either wait until we have a lot of phones and start selling then, or we can start selling as soon as possible. We chose the latter. “
Pei goes on to explain that Nothing wanted to have “at least some” phones in people’s hands. That’s why the company decided that Nothing Phone 1 would initially be sold through an invitation system, “so that the people who deserve it the most will be able to buy it in the beginning.”
So how will the invitation system work? The company says it wants to make sure the first supporters and community members get the phone first. Once that happens and the company increases production, the Phone 1 will go on sale more widely.
Nothing has shared the exact details of the invitation system, but we will update this article as we learn more.
As early as 2014, OnePlus sent out its initial invitation codes to members of its OnePlus One online forums. OnePlus One owners could then send their own invitation codes to others. The codes had to be accepted within 24 hours. The company continued with this type of marketing until it rejected its method of invitations in 2016. If we had to guess, Nothing could follow such a trajectory.
