The future of the NBA begins right now.

The project for 2022 has arrived and with it comes the promise of brighter tomorrows, rising stars and, if all goes well, maybe some flag-raising celebrations afterwards.

Whether these prospects can actually match the noise will become clear over time, but we know enough about their games and on paper to make real-time estimates for each selection.

With red pens in hand, we are here to evaluate each choice.

Check again throughout the night as teams make each selection.

The first curved ball in the draft comes with the first overall pick, like Magic’s Paolo Banchero, not the often-mocked Jabari Smith. For a team with such an obvious need for an offensive focal point (Orlando didn’t have anyone with an average of 17 points), this is a swing for the fences and most likely a blast from the moon.

If this draft class leads to a points champion, Banchero is the favorite in odds. His offensive bag bursts at the seams with a league-worthy mix of power, finesse, launch, finish and an unfair 6’10 ”, 250-pounder pass.

Now, can it be defended at the NBA level? Physically, he’d be good to start with his first initial tip, but with Duke, his protective engine splattered like a damaged pickup. However, a good coaching staff can correct this shortcoming, as well as improve his sometimes overly ambitious choice of shots.

From my point of view, Banchero is the most suitable and best potential customer in the class. Very well done, Magic.

More than a few talent scouts have Holmgren on top of their big boards, so OKC should be excited to have him at number 2.

If Holmgren can increase his 195-pound frame, be careful. It is quite difficult to deal with now without the added muscles. The distance between the floor and the wheel protection is in vogue right now, and Holmgren gets his metaphorical horn from his combination of 1.3 threes per game (at 39.0 percent clip) and 3.7 bounces.

In essence, he is a frightening, blocking-hitting big one that doubles as a shattering net, a big player on the perimeter at the other end. It’s an easy tandem of skills to fall in love with, even if its rail-thin body and half-court creation leave unanswered questions about its perspective.

He needs time, but Thunder can give him that. They can also provide photo creators in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey, who should help with Holmgren’s problems in generating half-court views.

Space City has always been in first place, holding No. 3 in the draft with a level of three players at the top. Even if Smith wasn’t the player who was most thought to fall in this place, whatever he fell would be pointless.

He can be the best shooter in his class, which is a high rating for everyone, not to mention the 6’10 ”19-year-old. He amazed with the quantity (2.3 triples per game) and quality (42.0 percent) during his one-and-a-half run in Auburn and everything about his outside shot feels translatable in the big league.

He doesn’t have as much shooting as you normally would from a top three, but he can tighten his grip over time and if he does, he’ll be unstoppable. Rockets fans will fall in love with his competitiveness, while Rockets coaches will feel the same about his flexibility in defense.

Smith will expand the attack strips for Jalen Green, while Green will find shots for Smith on the move. Smith’s mobility and defensive flexibility should also make him close to Alperen Sengun, assuming Houston has the latter as his long-term center.

Sacramento has found a clean lineup and a player who needs to make a smooth transition to the league in Murray. But did the Kings take the best perspective on the board here? This is debatable.

Murray is both old for top prospect (August 22) and young for his skill set, which appears to belong to an NBA veteran. His film is almost flawless and shows everything from multi-position defense and punches to timely (and targeted) passes and strong instincts.

His shooting may not be measured at 39.8 percent three points from last season, as he shot only 29.6 percent as a freshman and 74.9 percent in the bar for his career. He must also prove that he can constantly create his own blow against professional defenders.

Murray designs as a high-level glue. This archetype really helps good teams. How much does it cost to hope to play? This is a solid selection, but you want more than a solid selection № 4.

Congratulations, Motor City. You could have the most electric combination from the back of the Association sooner or later, after the Pistons paired Cade Cunningham with Ivey, who emits serious vibrations of Ja Morant.

Ivy is the epitome of electricity. It combines the explosion of a star on the runway with the aerial antics of a Cirque du Soleil artist to form an arsenal suitable for accents. He emerges as the most likely candidate to lead this project class in viral moments.

His jumper is often there when he needs it, though not quite what you would call consistent. He could also take his passing and court leadership to another level, but that’s probably true for any 20-year-old guard.

If a player from the perimeter turns out to be the best player in this draft, Ivy is the most likely candidate. The future of Detroit was significantly clarified on Thursday.

If the Pacers are really turning to recovery — still waiting to trade with Malcolm Brogden, and perhaps Miles Turner — then they form a rather perimeter trio to lead it. They selected Chris Duarte last summer, added Tyris Halliburton in the trading deadline and are now completing the trio with Maturin.

He is a high level athlete and shooter. If you don’t know anything else about his profile, at least admit that there are reasons to worry.

There aren’t many creations in his game at the moment (for him or his teammates), and his defensive influence comes and goes. However, he will give the Pacers a lot of punches on the perimeter and transients outside the door, and in the end they could have real talent in their hands if they help smooth out his weaknesses.

Interesting. The Blazers, who need as much winning talent as anyone else as they try to quickly rethink 31-year-old Damien Lillard, have just spent the top 10 on someone who hasn’t played a game in a year. On the other hand, they just caught someone with a high ceiling at both ends, so it’s hard to complain.

The mysterious man on this project, Sharpe has never played a game for the Wildcats. This forced spies and analysts to release footage from his high school days, where he dazzled like a dunker, a creator and a smoothly smooth shooter.

However, he may face a steep curve of training in the league, as both his handle and the choice of strokes need copious amounts of spice. However, if everything breaks down with his development, he can become a goal scorer who keeps his teammates involved and keeps his own defense.

The Blazers’ courage here is commendable. If there was a way to spend that choice and not lose commercial value, it was probably the way to go, because Sharpe has such huge potential.

Assuming that Zion Williamson leaves his health problems behind – a big guess, but stay with me – the Pelicans have far fewer holes in their list than their 46 losses would make you think. Here they could go in any direction and were smart to grab the fast growing Daniels.

He marveled at the pre-draft chain as he should. His size-skill combination is worthy of saliva. He is the second large playmaker (6’6 “), snatched from Australia and planted in the lottery for so many years (joining last year’s number 6, Josh Guide). Whatever they do with the big guards obviously works.

As with Guide, Daniels arrives at the Association with a shaky leap, and where this blow will eventually land will determine what career he will have. Still, he offers too much as a universal defender, slasher, playmaker and bouncer, so as not to settle at least as a player who can do anything.

Daniels, who feeds Williamson, Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum, should be all kinds of fun. Daniels partnering with Herbert Jones sounds suffocating at the other end. Good hit.

It’s hard to say how San Antonio’s long-term puzzle will take shape (especially after rumors of Dejounte Murray’s trade surfaced this week), which is kind of a problem because Sochan’s game doesn’t fit easily into every list.

He may be the most destructive defender in this draft, but he is also one of the least developed implementers (at least among the lottery prospects). Had he not been such a dynamic defender, he would have been much more horrified for his red flag shooting rates of three (29.6 percent) and the line (58.9).

Of course, even with a suspected jumper, his potential is out of the charts. It can defend any position and act as a 6’9 “, 230-pound table mount. But unless his result really runs out, he needs photographers around him, and San Antonio doesn’t have enough.

Having said all that, this development team has as good a chance as anyone else to get the most out of it.

If the Wizards keep Bradley Beale, then finding polished players makes sense. Davis scratches that itch.

He already seems to be a problem for the NBA’s defense – and that’s with the recognition that his three-ball is in the works (30.6 percent in 2021-22). He can hit with bigger defenders and punish the smaller ones around the basket with an impressive arsenal of low pillars for 6’4 “guard.

However, this shot from the perimeter is a question and its effectiveness has dropped …
