With number 35 in the NBA Draft in 2022, the LA Lakers selected Max Christie after receiving the selection earlier in the day when they sent a future second-round player and money to the Magic.
Christie is a 6’5 “Michigan scorer who averaged 9.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in his only college season. He is widely expected to become a sniper beyond the rainbow, although he scored only 31.7 percent of his 3 points last season. He was also a decent defender of both the guard and the wings.
According to The Athletic’s 2022 handbook, written by Sam Vecheni, the 19-year-old is unlikely to be an effective rookie from the start – something the Lakers say they don’t care about. Vecenie’s report on Christy’s scouting also suggests that he must add at least another 15 pounds to his 190-pound frame and prove he can shoot reliably enough to see consecutive minutes. However, it seems that the Lakers are confident that he can eventually become an influential two-way player with his clean shooting mechanics, high IQ, size and commitment to play defensively.
At least General Manager Rob Pelinka and his entire office think like this:
Rob Pelinka says the Lakers wanted to get younger and focused on a high selection in the second round. He believes Max Christie is next on the Lakers’ long list of impressive drafts over the past decade. He called him a “two-way, 3-and-D” player.

Although he may not be able to do so immediately, Christie’s prediction as a 3-D winger could potentially erase one of the Lakers’ most obvious organizational weaknesses. According to a draft March Express scout report written by Mike Schmitz, the remarkable state of Michigan caught the scouts’ attention with its surprisingly skillful off-drib, especially in the mid-range, which the Lakers say they can take with them. you’re in the NBA.
With Darwin Hamm ready to launch his 4-of-1 attack with the Lakers this season, Christy’s ability to develop into an elite 3-point shooter may simply make him ideal for a perimeter-dependent system. Before stepping on the court with one of the superstar’s teammates, whom he says he is excited to join, Christie’s first task will be to impress her new employers at the Las Vegas Summer League, where she is expected to dress from 7 to July 17.
The Lakers used their only choice in this year’s draft for Christie and seem to believe he was able to secure value in the first round, even though he dropped to 35. it will be interesting to see if they can secure theft again in the second round (as another Michigan alumnus seems to think there is).
Another 35th choice from the state of Michigan. The story goes that he will be All Star ♂️
