13:04 EDT – Canada’s Environment and Climate Change (ECCC) released a tornado clock for parts of northwestern Ontario on Friday afternoon.
“Conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms, which can cause tornadoes,” the ECCC said in its watch. The agency added that “strong winds, heavy hail and heavy rain are also possible.”
CURRENT WATCHES TORNADO (ONTARIO):
- Kenora – Nestor waterfall
- Fort Francis – Emo – Rain River
Numerous thunderstorms are forecast for this afternoon and will continue until early tonight. The tornado clock shows that the conditions are favorable for the development of a tornado. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado is detected or indicated by weather radar. The warning indicates that there is an imminent danger to life and property – and to take shelter immediately.
Residents are advised to monitor weather alerts for updates on all clocks and alerts throughout the duration of this event.

After a multi-day threat of a thunderstorm that engulfed much of the prairies this week, severe weather is expected to push east on Friday, targeting parts of southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. All severe weather conditions are on the table, including strong winds, very heavy hail and one or two tornadoes. You will want to pay close attention to the weather signals again on Friday as the storms develop in the afternoon and evening. More about storm weather and expected impacts, below.
TORNADO 101: What you need to know to stay safe
Friday
Thursday was a difficult day for much of the prairie as widespread strong thunderstorms rolled across the region. More than a dozen tornado warnings were in effect at one point on Thursday night.
Some warnings continued into the night before eventually falling through the vestibule.

If the early morning storms have not woken you up, there is another chance to see them all day on Friday. The threat is shifting to eastern prairies and northwestern Ontario.
A powerful storm is expected to form in the upper Midwestern United States on Friday. Forecasters expect this wave line to cross the international border in the afternoon.
All severe weather regimes are possible on Friday, as the squall line runs through southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.
Storms can lead to very heavy hail, some the size of golf balls, strong gusts of wind, heavy rain and even the risk of several tornadoes near the international border.
Frequent lightning is also expected, so evening activities may be affected.
It will be important to keep up with the times and warnings that may affect your area.
Part of the risk of a storm will occur after dark.
Strong night thunderstorms are especially dangerous because it is easy to miss warnings while you sleep and it is harder to see the dangers that lie ahead.

On Sunday we will see a cold front descending south of the northern prairies. Conditions will warm briefly before the front, with temperatures dropping to near or below seasonal levels for most of the week.
