Britain’s Boris Johnson says US abortion decision is “big step backwards”

KIGALI, June 24 (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Friday that the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the remarkable 1973 Rowe v. Wade ruling, which recognizes a woman’s constitutional right to abortion, was a “big step backwards”.

“This is a very important decision. I must tell you that I think this is a big step backwards,” he told a news conference in Kigali, where he was attending a meeting of the British community.

“I have always believed in a woman’s right to choose and to adhere to this view, and that is why the United Kingdom has the laws it makes.”
