Centrica plans to hire about 500 ex-soldiers, sailors and air force by the end of next year, as it is expected to move to Net Zero.
The energy giant will hire them for engineering positions at British Gas and the wider group as the company seeks to reach Net Zero by 2045.
Greg McKenna, Managing Director of Centrica Business Solutions, said: “Helping our customers reach Net Zero is at the forefront of our plans, but we need a skilled workforce to deliver at the right scale and pace.”
The first admission of a dozen former members of the force began their 42-week training. The initial focus is on training and hiring gas engineers.
Veteran Minister Leo Docherti, MP, said: “This is a fantastic initiative that will provide support to our retirees and veterans by helping them find work after they leave the army,” the Centrica website said.
Centrica also aims to hire women, in particular to enhance the diversity of the workforce.
