As DirecTV prepares to complete the exclusive edition of the NFL Sunday Ticket, which began nearly 30 years ago, three companies have made a game to take over the package in 2023.

Alex Sherman of CNBC.com reports that Disney, Apple and Amazon have submitted offers for the package outside the market. At this point, the three mega-companies are playing the game of waiting.

The league is looking for a partner to pay at least $ 2 billion for the Sunday Ticket and possibly acquire a stake in NFL Media, the league’s domestic television and web conglomerate. According to the report, mobile rights can also be part of the package.

As Sherman explained, the fact that the league added NFL Media to the mix slowed down the process. The three companies that made the bids would like things to be resolved sooner rather than later.

PFT previously explained that the winning bidder for the Sunday Ticket package could then sell the satellite rights back to DirecTV. Sherman’s report reflects this idea. The challenge will be to strike the right balance between customers who should be expected to buy the Sunday Ticket for streaming only and those who are better served by satellite. Restaurants and bars remain a major issue in this specific aspect of the wider conversation about Sunday tickets.
