A few years ago, Carl Pay and Pete Lau joined forces to create OnePlus and allowed some of the company’s devices to be purchased through an exclusive invitation system. It seems that we are in full circle again, since Carl Pay is also the founder of Nothing, he decided that the new Nothing Phone (1) will also initially be purchased only by invitation.

The debut of the device is scheduled for July 12 and the event will be called “Return to Instinct”. The Chinese company has already posted a video on YouTube explaining the production process of the device, focusing on low corporate impact – one of the interesting elements is that the smartphone is made of recycled aluminum.

In the video, we also find the reason why the invitation system was the preferred way: because the company is only at the start-up level, it is not able to cope with the giants in the smartphone industry. It still doesn’t have the size needed to sell millions of smartphones at once. The company also wants to make sure that the first people to receive the smartphone will be those who are part of the community of nothing and “deserve the most.”

Carl Pay also mentioned that when he launched the first Nothing, Ear 1 buds device, the company managed to sleep only a few songs each week, something they wanted to avoid happening again.

Of course, it is fair to assume that this move is also a marketing ploy that will help create noise around the device.

If you are interested in the smartphone, you should put yourself on a waiting list by sending your information through the official website of Nothing. You will then have to pay a 20 euro non-refundable advance.

We don’t have much information about Nothing Phone (1), but we know what it will look like: it will have a transparent back with an LED circuit that will notify you through various models of incoming calls, messages and more. It is said that the circuit interface is open to people to create their own custom effects, so it’s pretty cool.

According to the latest rumors, the phone will have a Snapdragon 700 series chipset under the hood, which means that it will generally be a mid-range device.

So far, that’s all we know about the upcoming phone, but we’ll find out more the closer to the launch date. Will you join the invitation list?
