The first 16 selections were determined in the NHL draft lottery, which took place on May 10. The Montreal Canadiens won the lottery and have a choice of 1. The New Jersey Devils won selection # 2.
The 2022 project will take place at the Bell Center in Montreal. The first round is July 7 (7 pm ET; ESPN, ESPN +, SN, TVAS), and rounds 2-7 are on July 8 (11 am ET; NHLN, ESPN +, SN, TVAS).
The 12 teams that lost in the first two rounds of the playoffs for the Stanley Cup have a choice of 17-28. Teams that did not win their division were placed in the reverse order of the regular season points, followed by the three division winners who lost in the reverse order of the regular season points.

The Edmonton Oilers, who lost in the Western Conference final, are number 29. The Winnipeg Jets have chosen number 30, which they acquired from the New York Rangers in an exchange with striker Andrew Kopp on March 21.
Tampa Bay Lightning, who lost in a game 6 of the Stanley Cup final on Sunday, will choose number 31.
The selection at number 32 goes to the Stanley Cup champion, but Colorado Avelanch exchanged this choice of Arizona Coyotes for goalkeeper Darcy Kumper on July 28.
The Coyotes and the Buffalo Sabers have three choices each in the first round, while the Canadiens, Jets, Columbus Blue Jackets and Anaheim Ducks have two each.
In addition to Colorado’s choice, Arizona has choice number 3 and number 27, which they acquired from the Canadians in an exchange of striker Christian Dvorak on September 4. The choice originally belonged to Carolina Hurricanes, but went to the Canadiens as compensation for the signing of a limited free agent for striker Jespery Kotkaniemi.
The Sabers have a choice of № 9, № 16 and № 28. The choice under number 16 was acquired by Vegas Golden Knights in the exchange of striker Jack Aychel on November 4, and number 28 came from the Florida Panthers in the exchange of striker Sam Reinhart on July 24.
The Canadians chose number 1 and number 26, which they acquired from Calgary Flames in an exchange with striker Tyler Tofoli on February 14.
The Jets have a choice of № 14, as well as a choice of Rangers.
The Blue Jackets have choice number 6, which they received in an exchange with the Chicago Blackhawks for defender Seth Jones on July 23, as well as choice number 12.
The Ducks have № 10 and № 22 selections, the latter being acquired by the Boston Bruins in an exchange of defender Hampus Lindholm on March 19.
