Alex Newhook becomes the third Newfoundland to win the Cup

Alex Newhook of Newfoundland and Labrador is the Stanley Cup champion.

Colorado Avelanch finally dethroned two-time Tampa Bay Lightning champion on Sunday night, holding on to a 2-1 victory and taking the series 4-2.

Newhook becomes the third Newfoundland player to win the Cup, after Daniel Cleary of Carbonear and Michael Ryder of Bonavista.

Newhook has four points in 12 games this postseason and at the age of 21 he became the youngest player from this province to ever win the Cup.

Expectations are now mounting for this summer, when Newhook and Cup are expected to return home.
