US forces have killed a senior terrorist leader in Syria

U.S. forces killed a senior terrorist leader in an air strike in Syria on Monday, military officials said.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the target of the strike was Abu Hamza al-Yemen, a senior leader of an al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group known as Huras al-Din.

The leader was riding a motorcycle alone in Idlib province during the attack, CENTCOM reported.

Violent groups such as Huras al-Din pose a constant threat to the United States and its allies, the statement said.

“The removal of this top leader will undermine Al Qaeda’s ability to carry out attacks on American citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians around the world,” the statement said.

An early examination showed no signs of civilian casualties, according to the U.S. military.

The strike came 10 days after a rare ground attack by US forces in northwestern Syria captured a senior ISIL leader.
