A man is in critical condition in hospital after being stabbed several times in a busy square in the center.
Police were called to Yonge and Dundas streets around 7:23 pm for stabbing signals.
An elderly man was subsequently rushed to hospital with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries, Toronto paramedics said.
Police later said there were life-threatening injuries.
The stabbing took place right in front of the bustling northeast corner of Eaton Center as crowds of people enjoyed the evening.
A suspect has been detained in connection with the incident, police said.
Police are asking all witnesses to contact investigators.
