California gun owners’ personal information has been leaked

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) – Californians with a concealed carry permit may have disclosed their personal information in the event of a data breach.

The California Department of Justice launched a new website on Monday to make information about firearms more transparent.

This information included the names, ages, addresses and types of licenses of those with covert weapons permits.

These are people who are allowed to carry weapons in public places, as long as it is not visible where this is allowed by law.

The Ministry of Justice closed parts of its website after learning of the violation.

“It’s connected every time specific information is made public,” said Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims. “Of course, what we tell the public all the time is to protect your personal information.

Mims says it is also important for these gun owners to make sure their home is secure, as home addresses were part of the violation.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who learns that their identities have been compromised in this data breach to report online here.
