BC Prime Minister John Horgan has announced he will step down as BC NDP leader in the fall when his deputy is elected.

Horgan still has more than two years left until his second term as prime minister, with the provincial election scheduled for October 2024. In Canada, the leader of the political party with the most seats becomes prime minister.

He is retiring for health reasons after recently overcoming his latest cancer attack.
