Google began implementing an updated Gmail user interface in February, which brings Meet, Chat, and Spaces closer together and applies more of the effects of styling Material You. As of today, it’s starting to opt out instead of turning on, so your account will switch to the new default view pretty soon.
This isn’t a huge change, but as Google goes through its current messaging app of the week and weaves its Workspace package into a better competitor for Office, it puts more emphasis on updated experiences.

If you can’t figure out what’s different here, the updated user interface gathers Mail, Meet, Spaces, and Chat buttons in one list at the top of the left rail, instead of displaying multiple conversations from each in a list. They are still easily accessible without having everything on the screen at once, and you can quickly switch to a conversation in any one tab, as the list will pop up when you hover your mouse over its icon.

And if you just want to have one particular form of on-screen communication without others (like Gmail), it’s a little easier to do so, as Chat and others are no longer listed under your inbox and tags.
According to Google, you can choose which apps are included there in the quick settings menu, where you can go back to the old look if you prefer. Unlike the usual 15-day deployment of new features, Google says it’s an “advanced deployment,” so while it comes to both Workspace and personal Gmail accounts, it can take more than a few weeks for your interface changed. your own. If you just want to try it out, you should be able to opt in (and opt out) from the quick settings menu right now, as long as you’ve switched to Hangouts and positioned chat in the left menu.
