Longtime entrepreneur, television operator and author from Ottawa Mark Sutcliffe is running for the next mayor of Ottawa.
Sutcliffe officially registered on Wednesday.
“I am excited and grateful today to officially register as a candidate for the next mayor of Ottawa – the best city in Canada and a place I proudly call my hometown,” Sutcliffe said in a press release announcing his candidacy. you are. . “Ottawa has always been considered a great place to live and work. But we are on the verge of some new and significant challenges. Our city is in a crisis of accessibility. Inflation is rising and there is considerable fear that the recession is just around the corner. We are facing a crisis in the reliability of our public transport system and we need to improve our roads. On these issues and more, we need new leadership in Ottawa. “
This comes amid a major change in Ottawa City Council, with Mayor Jim Watson and several current city councilors not wanting re-election.
Sutcliffe is a prominent figure in the Ottawa business community. He founded the Ottawa Business Journal in 1995, spent many years as a radio host on Newstalk 580 CFRA and 1310 News, hosted CPAC and Rogers TV, wrote for Ottawa Citizen, and served on the boards of numerous organizations in Ottawa. He is currently hosting the Digging Deep podcast.
In his online platform, Sutcliffe says that if elected, he would be “adequate [fund] our police, fire and paramedic services and to be strict about the causes of crime … to restore confidence in our public transport system, to improve our roads … “and”[keep] taxes, recreation fees and other costs as low as possible. “
Sutcliffe will be on the ballot along with seven other candidates: Brandon Bay, Bob Chiarelli, Bernard Couchman, Graham MacDonald, Catherine McKenney, Ade Olomid and Param Singh for the October 24 election.
Chiarelli, a former mayor of Ottawa, said on Twitter that he welcomed every participant in the mayoral race and looked forward to a “positive campaign for the benefit of our citizens.”
