“Beauty Concepts actively seeks to advertise, market and serve customers of all genders, races and ethnicities specializing in corrective skin care for all skin types,” the lawsuit states. “In particular, Beauty Concepts is a business owned by blacks and seeks to ensure that its services specifically serve black women and other colored women who have historically been underserved, excluded and reduced by the beauty industry.
However, as Kardashian’s lawyer told E! News, “We applaud Ms. Lunsford for owning a small business and following her dreams. But that doesn’t entitle her to wrongly claim that we did something wrong.”
On March 28, 2021, Beauty Concepts filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a trademark of its designer brand SKKN + or a stylized logo for use in beauty salons and skin care services, the records show.
On March 30, 2021, Kardashian filed several trademark applications in order to use the term “SKKN BY KIM” for skin care products and various goods. The following July, the reality star filed a trademark with only the word “SKKN” for use in skin care products, without a specific style, according to USPTO documentation.
