Liz Cheney to the Secret Service: “We welcome additional affidavits”

Cheney told ABC that the group spoke with Tony Ornato, then deputy chief of staff of the White House, and Robert Engel, who was in charge of the Secret Service agent on January 6, 2021 – and whom Hutchinson testified was told by Ornato that Trump threw himself.

“I don’t want to go into too much detail,” Cheney said. “The Committee has spoken to both Mr Ornato and Mr Engel, and we welcome further sworn testimony from both, as well as from anyone else in the Secret Service who has information on any of these issues.”

Cheney’s comments are in line with those other Jan. 6 committee members who told CNN and other media earlier this week.

Cheney added: “We work with the Secret Service, we interviewed, as I said, a number of people in the Secret Service. We will continue to do so. And I think it’s important that their testimony is under oath. ”

The Wyoming Republican’s remarks were released this morning after she slandered Trump and Republican leaders at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Wednesday night, in a speech in which she also praised Hutchinson’s bravery.

“I am absolutely confident in her credibility, I am confident in her testimony and the commission will not stand aside and watch her hero be killed by anonymous sources and by men claiming executive privilege,” Cheney told ABC.

After Tuesday’s hearing, an intelligence official familiar with the matter told CNN that Ornato denied denying Hutchinson that the former president had caught the steering wheel or agent for his detail.

Ornato is known to have a strong relationship with Trump and his team, as he was granted an unusual release to suspend his time in the U.S. Secret Service to serve as deputy chief of staff to Trump’s White House. Trump also challenged Hutchinson’s testimony.

Cheney was also asked about former White House adviser Pat Chipolon, who was called to testify before the commission on Wednesday.

Cheney said Cipollone said “no” to anything that refuted Hutchinson’s testimony, and said he was looking forward to his transcript again. The American people deserve to hear his testimony. ”
