Authorities have filed charges against a BC RCMP employee who allegedly used his position to pursue “intimate relationships with women” both at work and outside.
Seven allegations of breach of trust and two charges of fraud were approved on Wednesday against Capt. Peter Lecky of the RCMP Squad in Surrey.
Leki’s alleged misconduct occurred for nearly seven years, from January 2014 to October 2020, and involved three different people, the Surrey RCMP said in a press release.
The corporal is accused of using his position to “obtain information and communicate with the public” in order to engage in intimate relations, according to the squad.
“These are disturbing allegations,” said Comm. Brian Edwards, an officer in charge of the RCMP in Surrey, said in a statement.
“Our Professional Standards Unit is committed to an in-depth investigation and we urge anyone who may have additional information to contact us.”
Leki, who started working with the squad in January 2010, has now been fired without pay. Now that he has been charged, authorities have said they will “commit to the process of moving to a stop without pay”.
The British Columbia Prosecutor’s Office said the charges were approved by an experienced attorney who has nothing to do with Leki. No further details are expected while the case is in court.
Surrey RCMP released a photo of Leckie Wednesday and asked all witnesses to his alleged misconduct to call the professional standards department at 604-599-7887.
