Here’s a rundown of where to celebrate in your area, as well as where to go if you want to see fireworks

After several Canada days silenced by the pandemic, Metro Vancouver is ready to party in 2022. Most public celebrations that were canceled or reduced due to COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021 are returning in person this July 1. Here’s an overview of where to celebrate in your area.

Canada Day in Abbotsford *

The annual Main Street Parade returns starting at 11am, kicking off a full day of festivities including a family festival at Abbotsford Exhibition Park with play areas, main stage entertainment and multicultural food trucks followed by a fireworks finale. abbotsford.ca

Canada Day in Burnaby *

There are three celebrations around Burnaby on July 1st. Head to Edmonds Plaza and Park (7433 Edmonds St.) from 11am to 2:30pm for entertainment, arts and crafts, games and activities for kids, plus a youth volleyball tournament. The Burnaby Village Museum is also hosting an event (see below).

At 7:00 p.m., head to the town square at Central Boulevard and Central Park for a street festival with kids’ entertainment, a beer garden and music by k-os, Bif Naked and Alex Cuba, followed by fireworks at 10:00 p.m. burnaby.ca

Burnaby Village Museum

The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and offers multicultural family fun, music including headliner Shari Ulrich, games, demonstrations “and, of course, cupcakes!” The museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary with special exhibits. burnabyvillagemuseum.ca

Canada Together at Canada Place

The Big Party returns to Canada Place in downtown Vancouver this year, though it’s during the day and no fireworks are planned. It runs from 11am to 6pm and will feature headliner Johnny Reid, plus The Boom Booms, Omega Mighty and a host of other acts. There will be exhibits and demonstrations from cultures around the world, a children’s zone in Jack Poole Plaza, displays from the Canadian Armed Forces and plenty of food trucks. canadaplace.ca

Celebrate Canada Day with Drums 2022

A Canada Day Virtual Drum Celebration continues this year in a program launched during the 2019 Canada 150 celebrations. You can sign up to become a participant here. A live stream of the drumming that set a Guinness World Record last year will be broadcast live on July 1 on YouTube. canadadaydrumming.com

Canada Day Coquitlam *

Starting at noon, this free family event in Town Center Park offers entertainment, multicultural performances, food, fun activities and opportunities to learn more about Canadian and pre-colonial Indigenous history. It ends with fireworks at 10pm over Lake Lafarge. coquitlam.ca

Delta Canada Day *

Held at Chalmers Park, the Delta Party starts at 5:30pm with entertainment for kids, BBQ and food vendors and live music by Reckless. Fireworks end the day. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, water and sunscreen. delta.ca

Canada Day at Fort Langley

The BC Farm Museum is hosting a free day of fun for kids and the family, with a petting zoo, exhibits, pioneer demonstrations, face painting, scavenger hunts, woodworking and Canada Day cupcakes. King Street Farm opens 10am facebook.com/farmmuseumbc

Canada Day in the Town of Langley

Taking place at the north end of Aldergrove Athletic Park from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., there will be multicultural performances on the main stage and a children’s stage with magic shows and a puppet show, bouncy castles, food trucks and more. tol.ca/canadaday

Canada Day on Granville Island

There’s plenty to do on Granville Island on Canada Day, from all-day performances for the TD International Vancouver Jazz Festival (some free, some ticketed), plein air paintings and artist demonstrations, a children’s market from 11am to 5:30pm and many food vendors from maple taffy to Canada Day donuts. granvilleisland.com

Canada Day at Maple Ridge

Head to Memorial Peace Park for a farmers and craft market, water playground, pony rides, roving entertainers, food trucks and beer garden, plus entertainment on three stages. The party is at 224th Street Park and runs from noon to 6pm mapleridge.ca

Canada Day in Mission

Held from 8am to 3pm at Fraser River Heritage Park, the day begins with a pancake breakfast, with performances by magicians and dancers; demonstrations of martial arts, agility dogs, acrobatics and lumberjacks; and many exhibitors. mission.ca

Canada Day New Westminster

New West is hosting a weekend of Canada Day activities including Concerts in the Park on July 1st at Ryall Park (11am-1pm) and Westminster Pier (1-6pm) Registration required for some activities such as yoga and a drum workshop. newwestcity.ca

Canada Day North Vancouver

The North Shore’s biggest celebration of Canada’s 155th birthday is at The Shipyards (125 Victory Ship Way), with live music on two stages, a beer garden, a splash park for kids and a vintage dance party. The fun runs from noon to 10pm Shipyards Live hosts food trucks, artisans, live music and a beer garden every Friday during the summer. cnv.org

Canada Day at Pitt Meadows

Held at šxʷhék̓ʷnəs (Spirit Square, 11985 Harris Rd.) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Pitt Meadows party includes a pancake breakfast, vintage car and glamor show, main stage entertainers, crafter alley, dog show and children’s zone — plus a watermelon eating contest!

Canada Day in Port Coquitlam *

Lions Park hosts a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., then heads to Castle Park (2252 Castle Cres., PoCo) for an afternoon and evening of food, a drink garden, a spray park, live entertainment with Barney Bentall and son Dustin (9:15 a.m. -10:15 p.m.) and a fireworks finale after the show. Shuttle service from the PoCo West Coast Express station to the park is available starting at 2:30 p.m. portcoquitlam.ca

Golden Spike Days in Port Moody

A long-standing family event at Rocky Point Park, this festival runs all weekend (June 30 – July 3) with a Canada Day centerpiece with music from 54-40. There is live entertainment, food trucks and a beverage garden, logging demonstrations and more. Platinum Blonde plays July 2nd. Admission is by donation each day. goldenspike.ca

Stevenston Salmon Festival

The festival concludes its 75th anniversary with an all-ages program from 10am to 4pm at Steveston Village, Garry Point Park and Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site. There will be live music, art and food for the whole family. stevestonsalmonfest.ca

Canada Day in Surrey *

A full day of free entertainment at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheater in Cloverdale features rides, exhibits, a local village, a multicultural lineup of food trucks and a fireworks finale at 10:30 p.m. Headlining the main stage this year are Juno winners Arkells, along with performances of Shawnee Kish and Haviah Mighty. surrey.ca/canadaday

Canada Day in West Vancouver

The borough hosts an afternoon at John Lawson Park featuring music by local acts headlined by Side One, a kids’ zone starting at 4:30 p.m., and opening ceremonies at 4:45 p.m. westvancouver.ca

Whistler’s Canada Day

Whistler’s 1st of July celebration kicks off with a pancake breakfast in support of Lytton, free live music all day headlined by the Sam Roberts Band at 7:30 p.m., and a folk parade along the Village Walk beginning at 11 a.m. whistler.ca

Canada Day at White Rock

White Rock hosts Canada Day by the Bay West Beach with local live entertainment headlined by Soundtrack Canada features live local entertainment with Soundtrack Canada, a noon opening ceremony hosted by the mayor and Semiahmoo First Nation, a vendor row and activities for children at the museum.
