Mo Salah has signed a new £400,000-a-week contract with Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has cut ties with Liverpool and committed his future by signing the biggest deal in the club’s history.

Salah entered the final 12 months of his current terms, which were signed in July 2018, but after months of negotiations Liverpool and Salah have reached an agreement which will see him stay at Anfield until June 2025 on terms believed to be close to £400,000 a week.

It’s a huge moment for both Jurgen Klopp and Salah as it puts to rest any speculation about what the 30-year-old will do next.

There were indications that he would end his contract and move on a free next summer, but all such talks have now ended.

It has always been Salah’s preferred wish to stay on Merseyside, where he has become an icon since joining from Roma in 2017.

He was one of the best signings the club ever made and is in the top 10 all-time goalscorers in Liverpool history.

Julian Ward, Liverpool’s sporting director, flew a delegation to Mykonos, where the Egyptian was on holiday, to sign the papers and the business reflects Salah’s position as one of the best players in the world at the moment.

Salah has been instrumental in the Reds’ recent success, scoring 156 goals in 254 appearances, as well as helping guide the team to FA Cup and Carabao Cup triumphs last season.

The Egyptian was even named both the FWA Footballer of the Year and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year last season.

Salah was delighted with the new deal agreed and told the club website: “I feel great and [I am] excited to win trophies with the club. It’s a happy day for everyone.

“I think it’s taking a bit of time to renew, but it’s all set now, so we just have to focus on what’s next.”

“I think you could see over the last five or six years the team was always going [upwards]. Last season we came close to winning four but unfortunately in the last week of the season we lost two trophies.

“I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We also have new additions.

“We just have to keep working hard, have a good vision, stay positive and aim for everything again.”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher claims his Twitter rant against Mo Salah’s agent was pre-planned after telling him to “stop the cryptic nonsense” – only for the announcement to be made shortly afterwards.

Salah’s agent Rami Abbas Issa took to social media on Friday to post a laughing emoji which appeared to anger Carragher.

The Liverpool legend told Abbas Issa that fans could do “without this mysterious nonsense” for another 12 months before telling Salah to “talk”.

Salah also took to Twitter at the same time, posting a picture of himself relaxing by the pool while on holiday.

Carragher laughed off his remarks afterwards, claiming he and Salah’s agent had ‘fooled’ everyone

Carragher wrote: “All Reds love your client and if he is to leave next summer we will wish him well and say a big thank you. But we can do without this mysterious nonsense for the next 12 months! @MoSalah has a word!!’

Moments later, however, it was announced that Salah had in fact committed his future to the Reds, agreeing terms valued at close to £400,000-a-week.

And Carragher now claims his original tweet was a ploy to mislead the masses.

“We fooled them all boss,” Carragher said as he tagged Salah and his agent in his follow-up tweet.

Liverpool fans have not believed Carragher’s claims, insisting he has ‘no idea’ about the new deal

However, Liverpool fans do not believe their former defender, claiming that he has “deluded”.

“You’re mistaken.” The joke’s on you,” one fan tweeted.

Another agreed, tweeting: “You knew nothing, did you?”

“You had absolutely no idea but just went with the flow,” added another.
