Calgary police released security camera footage Thursday morning of a suspect they believe may have been involved in two house fires in the northwest community of Varsity in May and June.
On May 18, around 3 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 1100 block of Varsity Estates Drive NW — home security video appeared to show a man setting fire to a shed in the back of the house, police said at the time.
Then on June 4, another fire was reported about a mile away in the 1200 block of Varsity Estates Road NW, also early in the morning around 5 a.m.
In both cases, police believe a speeding car may have brought the suspect to the area.
Police say the suspect is between 20 and 30 years old, clean-shaven with a light complexion and often wears a hat and backpack.
The suspect was captured on a security camera at a 7-Eleven store near the area of the fires.
Police are asking anyone who can help with the investigation to call the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
