To reduce comment spam and channel impersonation, YouTube creators now have access to a new comment setting in YouTube Studio.
Creators will be able to select an “increase strictness” option. And the company said this is based on the “hold potentially inappropriate comments for review” setting and will reduce the number of spam and impersonation comments, Engadget reports.
This is a less stringent option than requiring all comments to be manually reviewed or excluded altogether, the report said.
From July 29, channels will not be able to hide their subscriber numbers.
The Google-owned video platform said it was a tactic often used by those pretending to be behind larger, more established channels.
Impersonators often leave comments on other videos to lure people to their fake page.
YouTube has acknowledged that some creators prefer to hide their subscriber count while building an audience. However, the move is said to make things safer for everyone.
Speaking of fake channels that use special characters to imitate more famous creators, this strategy will soon be a little less effective, the report said.
YouTube mentioned that it is reducing the character set that people can use when updating a channel name.
