Kayla Harrison is headed to the playoffs again.
The two-time PFL champion is one step closer to third place after taking care of business in the main event of the 2022 PFL 6 at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta. Short-time replacement Kaitlyn Young got in Harrison’s way Friday night, but couldn’t put up much of a fight.
It was a dominant performance by Harrison (14-0) in the final regular-season matchup of the PFL program, who made quick work of Young (12-13-1).
Just over a minute into the first round, Harrison applied his dominant grappling game and dropped Young to the canvas with a strong takedown. The Olympian began working from side control, looking for submission attempts. A few seconds later, Harrison moved to the back and began raining blows on Young’s head. The referee warned Young to fight back, but her positioning did not improve and the suspension soon followed.
“The goal is to come out and dominate, sometimes you just feel it,” Harrison said during his post-fight interview.
Harrison won her first fight of the season, earning three points in a unanimous decision victory over Marina Mohnatkina at 2022 PFL 3 in Arlington, Texas. Harrison was originally scheduled to face former Bellator champion Julia Budd on Friday, but was replaced by Young after pulling out of the fight.
Earning six points for her first-round finish on Friday, Harrison enters the playoffs as the second seed behind Larissa Pacheco, who also earned six points at the event.
The women’s lightweight playoffs, which take place in London in August, are now set with the first round pitting Pacheco against Olena Kolesnik and Harrison against Martina Jindrova.
