Drake Performs ‘I Want It That Way’ With Backstreet Boys: Watch

Drake performed “one of the greatest songs of all time” in Toronto.

Drake seems to be continuing to move away from rapping. Last month, he surprised fans with a dance album, Honestly, Nevermind, that strays from his hip-hop roots. Reviews are mixed to say the least. Some praised Drizzy’s new direction, while others weren’t so kind.

On Friday, Drake went full on feel-good pop. The rapper appeared with the Backstreet Boys as they closed out their main set at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage. He was the band’s honorary “sixth member” as they performed their all-time hit “I Want It Way.”

Drake told the crowd that he was honored to be a part of the show. “At 13, I had my bar mitzvah, and at my bar mitzvah, for the first time in my life, this girl I was in love with came up to me and played one of the greatest songs in the world,” he said. “She asked me if I would dance with her, and it was the first time I felt recognized, and it was the first time I felt like I had a chance to be cool.” The song in question? “I want it this way.”

So it was a momentous moment for Drake to join the Backstreet Boys in their performance of “one of the greatest songs of all time,” as the Toronto rapper described it. “If he can see me now,” Drake said. During the performance, he mixed his own song “Hold On, We’re Going Home”.
