After President Joe Biden called on gas station companies to lower gas prices, Jeff Bezos accused the US president of misleading the public or said he lacked a “basic” understanding of the forces that actually drive prices.
“Oh. Inflation is too important an issue for the White House to continue making statements like this,” Bezos said in a tweet Saturday night.
In the initial tweet, Biden made a direct appeal to gas stations and encouraged them to simply charge less for gas.

“My message to the companies that run gas stations and set gas station prices is simple: this is a time of war and global danger. Lower the price you charge gas stations to reflect the price you pay for the product,” Biden said Saturday morning.

The President called for compliance without any hesitation.
“And do it now,” he ordered.
Bezos said the tweet was very revealing to him and may reveal how little Biden knows about the market.
“This is either misdirection or a profound misunderstanding of fundamental market dynamics,” Bezos added in his response.

Comedian Tim Young similarly called Biden’s tweet “total buzz.”
“Gas stations don’t control what they end up charging,” he added. “People aren’t that stupid.”

Bezos has emerged as an unlikely critic of the Biden administration as Biden continues to try to pin the blame for record high gas prices on everything ahead of the midterm elections.

Bezos and the White House previously feuded over rising inflation, which the White House tried to blame on big companies like Bezos’ Amazon.
“They understandably want to obfuscate,” Bezos tweeted in May. “They know that inflation hurts the needy the most. But unions don’t cause inflation, and neither do rich people.”

“Remember, the administration has gone out of its way to add another $3.5 TRILLION to federal spending. They failed, but if they had succeeded, inflation would have been even higher than it is today, and inflation today is at a 40-year high,” he added.
