Mickey Sudo wins Nathan’s hot dog eating contest after a break

The queen reigns!

Mickey Sudo won his eighth Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest victory in nine years on Monday, returning to the top of the dog pile after being eliminated from last year’s competition.

The 36-year-old, who dropped out of the 2021 Hot Dog Eating Contest because she was pregnant, downed 40 dogs and buns – beating the nearest competition by 14.

Sudo led throughout the 10-minute race, crossing the 10-dog mark at 40 minutes.

2021 winner Michelle Lesko placed second on Monday, finishing runner-up to her friend and former housemate for the fourth time.

Sudo, a New York native, first competed in the annual Fourth of July tradition in 2014 and has never lost.

She is the highest ranked eating competitor on Major League Eating since 2014.

She gave birth to her son Max just days after last year’s race.

On Monday, her husband and fellow eating competitor Nick Wherry held the 1-year-old above his head to cheers from the crowd as his wife accepted the competition’s mustard-yellow championship belt.

“I didn’t know how hard it would be to compete after having a kid,” Sudo said in a pre-recorded interview shown on ESPN before the game. “Max is the best thing that ever happened to me, and Nathan’s is a close second.”
