TTC train surfers perform ‘incredibly’ dangerous stunt

TTC investigates ‘incredibly reckless stunt’ on Scarborough’s rapid transit system.

A video posted on YouTube on July 1 shows two masked men carrying Canadian flags “surfing” on the roof of a moving subway train on Line 3. The two then jump off as the train enters Kennedy Station and flee the scene .

The video posted by ChaseTO is captioned, “Celebrating the greatest country on earth by train surfing in my hometown. Happy Canada Day.”

The TTC posted about the incident on Twitter Monday morning.

“These incidents are taken seriously and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” the transiter wrote.

“Dangerous and careless, to say the least.”

This morning, TTC spokesperson Stuart Green said they are now in the process of pulling down footage from “stations and trains.” So far, there is no description of the suspects and no further details about what happened, he said.

“It goes without saying that stunts like this are incredibly dangerous and illegal. They can result in serious injury or death, as well as service delays and tremendous inconvenience to our customers,” he said in a statement.

Speaking to CP24 this afternoon, Green said this kind of behavior is “really dumb, to be honest.”

“There are all kinds of reasons why people just don’t do things like this,” he said, adding that depending on the outcome of the investigation, there could be some “very serious consequences.”

Green said those found responsible could face a $425 fine for failing to comply with TTC bylaws, but could also be charged with criminal trespassing by police.

Last August, the TTC investigated a similar “train surfing” incident after a three-minute video surfaced of a man hanging from the back of a moving westbound subway train at Bathurst Station. The man can be seen arriving at Spadina Station and running away.

TTC special constables investigated this incident, which they believe occurred sometime around August 20, 2021.

The account that posted the video, ChaseTO, also included clips of people climbing to the top of the Niagara Fallsview Casino and the former Kingston Jail.
