Boris Johnson latest: PM knew ‘first-hand’ about allegations against Chris Pincher before promoting him

Chris Pincher’s claims do ‘enormous damage’ to confidence in parliament, Tory minister says

Boris Johnson was given a “first-hand account” of the allegations against Chris Pincher before he was promoted to the role of deputy chief whip, The Independent has learned.

The prime minister has been briefed on allegations of sexual misconduct against the Tory MP at least twice, according to a senior Downing Street source.

“The Prime Minister was notified directly of a first-hand account of inappropriate sexual touching. He was told in early February and also in May,” said official number 10.

Meanwhile, Sir Keir Starmer accused the Prime Minister of showing “poor judgement” in appointing Mr Pincher to the whips’ office.

He told Sky News: “I have no sympathy for a prime minister who repeatedly makes poor judgment.

“We live with a version of this story month after month after month. Poor judgment from a man who puts himself above all else. I have no sympathy for him.”
