Man arrested in two mass shootings in Edmonton

A 34-year-old man has been charged in two mass shootings that killed a total of two people and injured 12 in Edmonton.

According to the Edmonton Police Service, Alinur Mohamed Musa has been identified as being involved in both the August 2021 shooting at Duggan Community Hall and another shooting at a lounge near 124 Street and 118 Avenue.

Hamza Mohammed, 22, was killed in the shooting in Duggan and six others were injured in the early hours of August 29.

And on March 12, around 2:45 a.m., police responded to the Ertale Lounge after reports of 60 to 70 shots being fired and found two women and four men with various injuries. A fifth man was transported to the hospital with injuries after the shooting.

One of those victims, Imbert George, 28, died of multiple gunshot wounds, police said at the time.

In that shooting, two other men were charged with first-degree murder, six counts of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life and other firearm-related offenses.

On Monday, police said officers found Moussa in a vehicle at a traffic stop on June 27 and arrested him and three other people.

Detectives from the Firearms Investigation Unit searched Musa’s home and vehicle, where two loaded handguns, two prohibited extended magazines and “evidence” of the shooting were found in the saloon.

One of the firearms had an obliterated serial number and the other was loaded with an overcapacity magazine, EPS said.

Yahye Abdinasir Alibarre, 28, also faces seven firearms charges following the June 27 traffic stop.

In a statement on Monday, EPS clarified that neither Moussa nor Alibare had firearms permits.

Two other men have previously been charged with first-degree and second-degree murder in connection with the Duggan shooting.

Saeed Osman, 27, is still wanted by police on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder in connection with the shooting at the salon. Investigators are still trying to identify a fourth suspect in this incident.
