The crash between the bus and a Purolator cube van happened around 4:30 p.m. on June 30.

At the time, there were 16 students on the bus visiting from Quebec. The 18-year-old woman was sitting next to the window where the van hit and was seriously injured.

“After her classmates attempted life-saving first aid, the injured student was transported to Trail Regional Hospital, then to Kelowna General Hospital…” said RCMP Insp. Chad Badree in a statement.

RCMP Victim Assistance and counselors from Selkirk College are assisting the students involved.

The driver of the courier van remained at the scene.

Police say investigators are trying to figure out why the van driver crossed the center line and are seeking information or video from several drivers behind the van. Video from the bus shows three vehicles in particular: a blue two-door coupe, a silver SUV and an older gray Nissan Pathfinder.

British Columbia Premier John Horgan said his government is reaching out to the Quebec government to offer help.

Anyone with information is asked to call the BC Highway Patrol in Nelson at 250-354-5180.
