Man in critical condition after shooting on Ritchie Street

Ottawa police are investigating a shooting with injuries in the city’s west end Wednesday afternoon.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene on the 100 block of Ritchie Street, near Britannia Park, around 1:10 p.m.

Paramedics said a 26-year-old man was taken to the Ottawa Hospital trauma center in critical condition with abdominal trauma.

Officers responded to a shooting incident in the 100 block of Ritchie St involving injuries.

Police have taped off a car park at the Britannia Woods Community House complex and are urging people to avoid the area.

“Usually this neighborhood is pretty calm and quiet,” said Cardian Curry, who lives in the neighborhood but did not see what happened.

“We have a lot of kids here and we have a lot of good programs for the kids. So when we see things like this, it really bothers us.”

Ottawa police are investigating after a 26-year-old man was shot in the city’s Britannia Park neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, just a day after another shooting left a man critically injured on Banff Avenue. It is unclear if the two incidents are related.

The shooting comes a day after a man was shot at an Ottawa apartment complex on Banff Avenue.

“The safety and security of tenants is Ottawa Community Housing’s top priority,” the organization wrote in an emailed statement Wednesday evening.

“OCH is unable to provide further details on these separate incidents as both are currently under investigation by the Ottawa Police Service.”

The victim of Tuesday’s shooting was still hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday, police said.
