Pablo Ruiz of Texas, killed by a firework exploding in the head

A Texas man was killed instantly by a firework he set on his head on July 4, according to local reports.

Pablo Ruiz, a 43-year-old San Antonio man, was drinking with friends during a Fourth of July celebration when he decided to light a mortar-style firework on his head, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

The firework exploded from the bottom and pierced the top of his skull, killing him almost instantly, police told the publication.

San Antonio police officers arrived at the residential area shortly after midnight. Ruiz was suffering from severe head trauma with brain matter recovered from his skull.

The man died shortly afterward and was later identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.
