LONDON, July 8 (Reuters) – British President Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie are changing the location of a planned wedding, an ally of the prime minister said on Friday, denying accusations that he remains in an acting role because of it.
The Mirror newspaper reported on Thursday that Johnson, who had said he would resign, wanted to stay on for several months, partly because he planned to throw a party at his official residence in Checkers later this month to celebrate your marriage.
An ally of the prime minister said on condition of anonymity that it was “absolutely ridiculous to suggest” that the party’s plan was the reason Johnson would remain in the acting role. The party would no longer be held at Checkers.

Asked about the report on Thursday, a Downing Street spokesman said: “The Prime Minister has a strong sense of duty and will continue to serve her country until a new leader is elected, solely to continue fulfilling her duties to the public.”
In addition to their official residence at 10 Downing Street in London, British prime ministers traditionally use Checkers, a 16th-century English country house north of the capital, as a private retreat, a place to receive world leaders and occasionally to organizing parties.
Johnson married Carrie, 34, last year in a low-key, secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral in central London at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
The couple’s wedding reception at Checkers was planned for July 30.
