A video shows teenagers using cones to attack an elderly man who later died

Police in Philadelphia have released disturbing video footage showing a group of teenagers using a cone to attack an elderly man who died the day after the ambush.

On Friday, June 24, around 2:38 a.m., in the 2100 block of Cecil B Moore Avenue in Philadelphia, a group of youths were seen on surveillance footage attacking 72-year-old James Lambert.

Footage released by the Philadelphia Police Department on Friday shows three girls and four boys hitting the victim with several objects, including a cone, and knocking him to the ground.

The victim was blurred out in surveillance footage taken on Philadelphia’s north streets, but officials confirmed he suffered a head injury in the attack.

He was taken to a hospital shortly after the ambush and later died of his injuries, police said.

“The teenagers struck the victim several times with objects, knocking the victim to the ground, causing head injuries,” police said in a statement released online.

Separate security footage shows the group of young people, described by police as teenagers, regrouping after the attack, with one of the young boys appearing to play in the attack that happened minutes earlier.

Police hope the newly released footage, plus the added reward of $20,000 for anyone who can offer information about the suspected attackers, will help generate new information in the case.

In the video, officers provided zoomed-in images of the teenagers captured on surveillance cameras, without providing further details about their identities, other than the fact that one of the suspected attackers had a patch of blond hair.

The Philadelphia Police Department has released these images of the youths suspected of carrying out the attack on 72-year-old James Lambert, hoping the newly released video and a $20,000 reward for information will help generate leads in the investigation

Lambert’s family, referred to as “Simmy,” is reportedly “heartbroken” by the 72-year-old’s death and told NBC 10 Philadelphia they saw the man just hours before the deadly attack.

“They don’t believe a group of kids did this,” NBC 10 reporter Danny Freeman said.

Police are urging anyone with information about the attack to call 911 or submit an anonymous tip by phone, text or online.
