56 mins: Australia’s attack from the resumption of play goes through hands from left to right as Kerevi stands up on the halfway line. The mirror image happens, but with Paisami making contact on the left, creating a slow hand that White kicks from behind for 50/20! It was huge from the Wallaby half and he is delighted. But wait, the TMO is involved in the 50/20 centimeter check. The tackle that started the drive was in Australia’s half, so the toss is England’s, not the Wallabies’.
55 mins: If England don’t get this, they’ll only have themselves to blame. It was 19-0 remember.
PENALTY! Australia 17-22 England (Lolezio, 54)
Lolezio saves the simple penalty and the Wallabies are already flying home on a wet canvas.
Yellow card! (Smith, 54)
Another solid line, Australia reject the foul and start to throw the ball through White and Bell, but the ball goes to the ground… and the reason it does is a deliberate knock from Smith! It’s time for an English player to head for the bin!
53 mins: Australia secure their own ball on the halfway line. Leota breaks through the England defense and Underhill concedes a penalty on the kick. Wallabies hit in the left corner. Can they make three attempts out of three attacks?
51 mins: So despite England dominating most of this contest, Australia lead the tries 2-1 and are still very much in the game.
Behind the game another Wallaby has fallen. Not this time, just as a substitute, holding his left shoulder after putting himself in a bad tackle position.
CONVERTED EXPERIENCE! Australia 14-22 England (Kerevi, 49)
The line is secured and the mall is taking shape. England do well to hold him, but as the play breaks down Valletini, then Tupou, then Bell, hit England close to the line. There is a penalty in play as Hooper tries to draw the England defenders into the fray. Nine phases, 10, play finally spreads down the right but England fight back. Back left and Tupou is close! The ball goes out, there is an overlap on the left, a catch and pass finds the free man, and Samu Kerevi pounces! It was a long grueling journey that was a tribute to patience and hard work. Excellent effort from the Wallabies.

46 mins: And the scrum goes Australia’s way! A big early strike from the Wallabies pack appeared to be met with resistance from England, but as the mass of humanity swirled around the whistle, Australia kicked into the left corner.
45 mins: England make a mess on the restart for the first time tonight, letting the ball bounce, but Koroibete can’t gather and the Wallabies can’t capitalize. The bounce of the ball was not in the Aussie winger’s favor there, but if it had been, it would certainly have been a try. Anyway, it’s an England battle with their 22.
PENALTY! Australia 7-22 England (Farrell, 43)
Good settler for England at the start of the second half. Tourists do it in threes.
42 mins: After another long break, play resumes with England scrambling almost down the middle of the left wing. The set is solid and England attack from the blind side. The forwards get to work, bulldozing their way to the line repeatedly until Smith pump fakes and kicks…to nothing. Another wasted opportunity but the game goes back to a previous advantage from the penalty spot.
41 mins: So Petaia lasted just a few minutes before going down with an HIA, and now his replacement Perese looks set for an extended stint on the sidelines. James O’Connor is the latest Wallaby in the firing line.
41 mins: England’s fightback is as intense as it was at the start of the first half, cutting Coroibete off before he can build his strength. Australia recycle to the right and… oh no… oh no… Perez goes down without contact and looks in agony clutching his right knee. This does not look good at all. Wallabies can’t take a trick.

41 mins: Steward heads over on the restart and England set about consolidating their lead.
A promising first half for England, but without Maro for the last 40 it seems. Now the courgettes need to step up…

I’ve just ingested a dangerous amount of jelly snakes to sustain me for the second half. We will be back in Brisbane soon.
Half time: Australia 7-19 England
Australia will be thrilled to be hitting the sheds just 12 runs down after being outplayed from go to woah at Suncorp Stadium. England controlled the game and played with fearsome intensity, especially in defence, but perhaps did not come back to pile on the points when all the momentum was in their favour. The Wallabies showed them how, taking advantage of their lone foray.
40 mins: An Australian scrum is powered in their own 22. It holds and the Wallabies attack from left to right until a strike down the right channel fails to trouble the England defence. Hooper is then penalized for a very technical foul on the hand, but England miss a touch with their free-kick and we’ll pause for orange segments.
39 mins: There is a long pause as England attend to the lock on the ground. Number 4 is back on his feet and leaves. Whether it will pass the upcoming HIA remains to be seen.
39 mins: Immediately after the restart, Itoje goes down and is certainly done for the night after getting his head on the shoulder of a rampaging Paisami.
CONVERTED EXPERIENCE! Australia 7-19 England (Tupou, 38)
A solid line for the Wallabies and Bell hitting the line hard with a penalty advantage. Whyte gets more yards, Paisami gets a bit of a carry, Bell breaks the line and Tupou finishes the job. He owed his country something and the big boy delivered. Australia scored from their first attack of the half.

35 mins: The midfield scramble is reset, with the referee having a long talk with Tupou. The second set held long enough to count before rolling far enough for Australia to win a penalty. The kick goes into England’s 22 for the first time tonight.
34 mins: Van Poortvliet with another strike in the box, which England claw back after a fearsome Coroibete chase. The intensity of England’s chasers tonight was something to behold. However, there is a sloppy kick soon after and the Wallabies are awarded a scrum.
PENALTY! Australia 0-19 England (Farrell, 32)
Five out of five for Pharrell. England didn’t smell Australia at Suncorp Stadium.
31 mins: Mall is forming in Australia’s half behind England’s line. The advantage of the penalty precedes Van Poortvliet, who darts from behind to the gap, but soon a hurdle follows and play returns.
29 mins: Another kick from the back, Nowell this time, isolates Coroibete near his line. The chase is great. Australia are forced into a last-ditch touchdown clearance. England are clearly happy to play the territorial game as long as they have dominance.
28 mins: Another England win in the line-up almost halfway through, another low shot from Smith but this time it ricochets well for Underhill off the Wallabies’ head. George swoops in, almost clear, but it’s crooked and the defensive fight is good enough to get England into touch down the right. England explore but some very questionable decisions from Smith. Why not try running the ball against the 14?
26 mins: By contrast, Van Poortvliet is kicking superbly tonight and from his last catcher Lolessio is absolutely smashed. Creates good momentum for England in midfield which only grows when Australia try to run off their own line. From a clearance, England secure the ball from the line, Smith kicks – better this time – and Hill leads the charge after a quick clearance. Australia cannot get a foothold in this match. With 14 men, they are at risk of being blown out by half-time.
24 mins: Australia look to recover from the restart just inside England’s half and they string a few phases together, although none of them cross the gain line and it’s no surprise when there’s a turnaround. Smith kicks again and again unconvincingly, returning possession to Australia right in their half.
23 mins: Australia haven’t had a single shot in the first quarter. England were full of intent and deservedly took the lead.
PENALTY! Australia 0-16 England (Farrell, 23)
Nothing sweet from Pharrell. He simply took the three points from the original penalty under the crossbar.
Yellow card (Perese, 22)
The TMO takes a long look at this tackle by Perese and the ruling – very, very harsh – is that it was deliberate! In my eyes it was almost a interception. Anyway, Australia’s back-up is out for ten minutes. Everything is going England’s way tonight so far.
22 mins: England secure the ball on the 22 line and the kick rumbles 15, then 10, then 5 before collapsing. Penalty advantage, England head wide of the center goal to the left, a try is sure to come but there’s a golden hand in the way, the ball goes to ground and England will have to settle for a penalty.
20 mins: England can’t capitalize as…
