Calgary Stampede sets Parade Friday record

Anticipation had been building for three years, so you might not be surprised to hear that so many Calgarians were itching to get back to “normal” getaways.

More than 300,000 people flocked to Friday morning’s parade to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city’s premiere event — and those numbers didn’t drop when it came to grounds attendance.

“Friday really kicked things off with over 130,000 people,” said communications manager Kristen Anderson. “We were pumped.”

There were 130,177 people to be exact. This is a daily attendance record for the first full day of the festivities, commonly referred to as “Parade Friday”.

The numbers brought the total attendance for 2022 to 154,713, after almost 25,000 turned up at Thursday’s preview event.

“That speaks volumes,” Anderson continued. “There is nothing better. Stampede is Calgary and vice versa. People need it and are ready to celebrate and come together again.”
