Britain could experience its hottest day on record this week, the Met Office has said.
Temperatures could reach 33C on Tuesday, while parts of the south-east, including London, could reach 35C at the weekend.
The Met Office told The Telegraph there was currently a 30 per cent chance Britain would experience its warmest day on Sunday. This will see temperatures surpass the current record of 38.7C recorded at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens on July 25, 2019.
From 9am on Monday, the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) will introduce a level three health warning for the South East.
A Met Office spokesman told The Telegraph: “We will experience temperatures in the low 30s on Monday and Tuesday next week, after which temperatures are likely to drop into the 20s due to increased cloud cover.
“For next weekend they will pick up again and we expect temperatures above 32C.” There is a main belt that starts in Hampshire and stretches north to London and East Anglia where temperatures can exceed 35C.
