Dr Lee added: “In the UK, radon levels are highest in the South West and are often found in areas where there are tin mines.”
In addition to lung cancer, radon gas has also been linked to kidney cancer, melanoma, some blood cancers and some brain tumors, according to research.
The expert said: “Even when radon does not cause cancer, it can make other diseases worse.
“It is associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pulmonary fibrosis.”
