Sir Tom Jones is being treated by doctors after collapsing in Budapest

Sir Tom Jones was forced to postpone a concert in Budapest on Tuesday night after he “collapsed” at the MVM Dome in the Hungarian capital.

The legendary 82-year-old singer fell ill ahead of the final European date of his Surrounded by Time tour and was reportedly told by doctors to cancel the show.

A source told MailOnline: ‘Tom Jones has collapsed so his gig tonight has been canceled and doctors have been called to the stadium. His management set August 16 as the new date for the concert.

The source said he collapsed about an hour before he was due to perform, but was hopeful he would be able to continue with the concert.

But following orders from private doctors, Sir Tom was forced to cancel the concert just minutes before he was due to go on stage, according to stagehand Péter Kovács.

A statement from the venue, translated into English, added: “Unfortunately following the advice of doctors, Tom Jones regrets that he cannot perform at the MVM Dome tonight.

“The show will be rescheduled for Tuesday, August 16, 2022. All tickets will remain valid for the adjusted date.”

“Sir Tom sends his sincere apologies for the inconvenience but looks forward to performing before you in August.”

According to local news, the National Ambulance Service said it had not been called to the scene.

A spokesman for the Surrounded by Time tour reportedly confirmed to Hungarian news outlet Index that Tom had fallen ill.

Sir Tom’s website shows a new tour date at the MVM Dome in Budapest, scheduled for August 16.

Sir Tom’s concert at the MVM Dome in Budapest replaced the originally announced Kyiv stop of his Surrounded by Time tour, due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

On Friday, Sir Tom took to the Henley Festival stage before playing in Norfolk and Halifax over the weekend, before heading to Budapest as part of his Surrounded By Time tour.

After his performance in Amsterdam last Wednesday, Sir Tom said on Instagram that he had an “electric night” on stage at the Ziggo Dome.

Sir Tom is touring the world for his highly anticipated Surrounded By Time tour and regularly shares photos from his travels and shows on Instagram.

His ongoing European and US tour includes more than 50 dates and the singer is due to perform in cities in Germany, Croatia, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway and Belgium in the coming weeks.

In August, Sir Tom is due to return to the UK for more tour dates, including shows in Edinburgh and Essex, before heading to the United States.

He plans to visit states including New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut before heading to Canada to play in Toronto, Montreal and Windsor.

Sir Tom’s 55-date tour will then return to America for more shows before concluding on October 12 with a final performance in San Francisco.

Announcing new tour dates on Instagram in April, Sir Tom wrote: “Really looking forward to hitting the road across the UK/Europe this summer!

In 2017, Sir Tom was forced to postpone a 21-date US tour for the following year following doctors’ orders.

He was scheduled to begin his final live concert series with a show in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on September 6, 2017 and continue on the road until October 7 of that year with a final show in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

But in a statement to fans at the time, the singer said all US tour dates have been pushed back to 2018.

His representative announced at the time: “Following medical advice, Sir Tom Jones has announced that he will regrettably postpone his US tour, which was due to start in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Wednesday 6 September.

“The dates are being rescheduled to May and June 2018 and all tickets will remain valid for the new dates, details of which will follow as soon as possible.

“Tom sends his sincere apologies to his fans and looks forward to seeing them all again in 2018.”
