Perth County OPP laid charges stemming from a historic sexual assault investigation.

In a release, police said the charges stemmed from an incident that happened in Perth East in 2001. The accused was said to be in a position of authority and the victim at the time of the alleged attack was a teenager. As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged Howard Bean, 72, of East Dawn-Tavistock Township with sexual assault of a person under the age of 16 and sexual interference.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer the charges, which have not yet been proven in court.
