The best essentials under $25 to help fight inflation

We’re over the moon and over the moon about Amazon Prime Day 2022. One thing we’re not too keen on, though, is inflation.

This year, we expect Prime Day to have a much different feel. Of course, Amazon offers some of the best prices ever on high-priced items like outdoor patio furniture and mattresses, but we can confirm that the deals are just as good on practical items under $25.

That said, we’ve rounded up the 18 most useful and budget-friendly items you can add to your Amazon cart this Prime Day. Some are must-have home cleaning products, while others are great plus-size deals to take advantage of.

While we’ve hunted down the best bargains, it’s important that you, the reader (and shopper), understand that the word “bargain” has a whole new meaning this year given the escalating prices we’ve seen.

“Shoppers should know that just because a product is on sale doesn’t mean it’s a good deal,” Christine McGrath, shopping expert and editor of RetailMeNot’s The Real Deal, told The Post. “It’s not uncommon for companies to mark up an item before it goes on sale, so knowing the price history of a product is a great way to really know if the price you’re paying is really considered a good deal.”

Going forward, we’re sharing the expertise provided by our shopping experts along with the best practical buys under $25 to add to your Amazon cart today and tomorrow for Prime Day sales.

What makes a good deal? How do the “deals” look different this year?

A good deal, according to Kristen Gall, Rakuten’s retail and shopping expert, is found when you know for sure that the product you’re looking for won’t be found at a lower price than what’s currently discounted, ensuring that that it is below retail value.

“If a product isn’t specific to a certain store, such as shopping for electronics, groceries, and other related categories, do some research to see if you can find what you’re looking to buy at a better price elsewhere,” she suggests.

Our recent survey also revealed that 88% of those with a Prime membership say they will shop on Prime Day this year. However, although they will shop at the event, they are not that big. The average Prime Day shopper plans to spend $388 on Prime Day this year, a sharp drop from 2021, when we saw an average planned Prime Day spend of $594.

How inflation is affecting this year’s shopping spree

“The word ‘deal’ takes on new meaning with inflation because prices are so high that deals seem a little unclear to many consumers,” notes Gall. With that, we’re seeing excess inventory in stores, forcing retailers to discount a lot of products and offer sales to clear their inventory.

Therefore, consumers must quickly adjust to another “new normal” as inflation reaches 40-year highs. “Amidst all this interest in collecting and spending, consumers continue to change their shopping habits and mindsets to accommodate rising prices,” adds McGrath. “That means tightening budgets for upcoming events, cutting back on non-essentials and turning to coupons and other money-saving tactics.”

  • Amazon Fire tablets
  • Pressure cookers
