Trafalgar Square fire: The basement of a pub has been damaged after a massive fire

fire crews tackled a fire at a pub in Trafalgar Square in “severe” conditions on Tuesday night.

Around 70 firefighters initially battled the blaze at The Admiralty pub, but this number was later increased to around 125 due to the “challenging and hot conditions”.

London Fire Brigade said they were called to the blaze at 5.49pm. By then around 150 people had evacuated the pub and surrounding businesses. There are no reports of casualties.

The fire damaged the basement and basement of the establishment. It took until 10 p.m. to bring the fire under control.

London Fire Brigade earlier said in a statement: “We have 10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackling a fire at a pub in Trafalgar Square. Half the basement is on fire.

“Please avoid the area if possible as there will be heavy traffic disruption.”

Crews remained on the scene throughout the night and into Wednesday morning.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
