Guildhall Street was cordoned off at the junction with Cross Street at around 6.30am after police were alerted by the North West Ambulance Service.
Paramedics attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene in what police said were “unexplained” circumstances.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were contacted by the ambulance service just before 6.30am today (Wednesday July 13) after the body of a man was found in a car park on Guildhall Street in Preston. Sadly, he was confirmed dead at the scene. He has been identified as a man in his 40s. The death is being treated as unexplained at this time and investigations are ongoing.”
