Suella Braverman will back Liz Truss as Tory leader candidate who will “unleash the possibilities of Brexit” and cut taxes.
Ms. Braverman, the attorney general, was thrown out of the race on Thursday after winning the fewest votes in a second vote by lawmakers.
She said in a statement: “I am truly grateful to everyone who supported me in the leadership election. We must unite as a party and fulfill the manifesto.
“Liz is the best person to unlock the opportunities of Brexit and deliver much-needed tax relief.
“I am confident that she will protect free speech, protect equal opportunity and take a strong stand on illegal immigration.”
This is what the British expect.
Kemi Badenoch, another leadership rival, said she was “disappointed” Ms Braverman would back Ms Truss.
Ms Badenoch told LBC: “Suela and I are friends, I’m friends with Tom Tugendhat and Rishi and Liz were my senior ministers so it’s all very close to home.
“We’re all friends, so every time someone supports one person, there’s another person who’s disappointed. But I’m in it to win it.
“I know people want to support the person who they think is most likely to give them a job, or who has been there the longest – that’s the easiest thing to do. The hard thing to do is take a risk and try something different.
