41-year-old man charged with first-degree murder in stabbing in Whitby

A 41-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing another man at a residence in Whitby on Wednesday afternoon.

Police previously described the incident at a property on Regatta Crescent as “domestic related”, but few details were released about the exact circumstances.

In a new news release Thursday, police said a 44-year-old man was found at the scene with life-threatening injuries after the initial knife call. He was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries a short time later.

Authorities say the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, but was later found in a trailer park in Kirkfield with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police.

“The suspect was arrested without incident,” the release noted.

The suspect has been identified as Zachary Gibson of Whitby.
